considering in just two days from now the boeing 787 made its debut flight from sjc. it will do so with a sold out fight. sold out means 158 passengers will board the dream liner at sjc bound for narita airport. in light of the problems the high tech dream liner has been working through. the aircraft debuted with all nipon airways in october of 2011. since then it's recorded five incidents that each made headlines. problems ranging from electrical concerns in december to just yesterday when one of the 787s began leaking fuel on the ground at boston's logan airport. an aviation expert on the "today" show. you will hear from him in a moment. first we got feedback from passengers who said they were concerned by the news. >> they should test it better before they get people on it. >> i don't want to be on it until they get it fixed. >> i have confidence in the airplane. there are going to be teething problems with a new airplane. it's common. the first commercial aircraft made of light weight carbon composite. 21% less fuel than planes of similar size. waiting to hear back to see if they are makin

22nd. >>> now to aviation for the second night in a row there's trouble to report with one of boeing's new 787 dreamliners. the aircraft a whole lot of people had hailed as the future of american aviation, yesterday it was a fire, today a mishap moments before takeoff, for a planeload of passengers. tom costello covers aviation for us, he's with us from san diego tonight. tom, good evening. >> reporter: hi, brian. this actually occurred in boston today, japan airlines 787, japan airlines yesterday as well, but today they were just about to depart fully loaded with passengers when they developed some sort of a fuel leak and they lost 40 gallons right there on the ramp. they went back to the gate, fixed the problem, the plane did, in fact, leave for tokyo but we can tell you that this follows yesterday's incident also involving a japan airlines 787, that was a belly, the fire in the belly of the plane, i should say. investigators now think that's tied to an auxiliary power unit, a battery pack and there have been other emergency landings and problems with electrical systems over the la

for boeing's new 787 dreamliner, officials with san jose international airport say they're very excited about launching their new dreamliner flight service direct to japan. the s.e.c. spokesperson tells nbc bay area the first flight to tokyo is scheduled to take off as planned 11:45 friday morning. and it is sold out. now, this has the dreamliner has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. just yesterday one of the 787s began leaking fuel on the runway at boston logan airport. just one day after another dreamliner caught fire also on the tarmac. many aviation experts say these issues are nothing more than just growing pains for a new airplane. but this is not calming the nerves for some passengers at sjc. >> well, they should test it a little bit better before they get people on it. they're going to start it friday? and they're still having issues, huh? i don't think i'd want to be on it until they get those things fixed. >> i'll fly on a 787 at any time. i have absolute confidence in the airplane. there are going to be teething problems with a new airplane. it's quite common. >> the
